How the numbers are calculated
Bands are an unweighted mean of every Energy Performance Certificate the Open EPC Register has on file for that outward postcode. We round to the nearest whole band, so a CO4 mean of 3.4 would render as Band D rather than blending colours.
Annual saving is the gap between the current and potential rating, multiplied by the area’s mean energy consumption and floor area, capped at a 55 % reduction. We use a blended UK retail unit cost of 28 p/kWh, which we revise quarterly to track Ofgem’s price-cap movements.
Outcodes shown with reduced opacity are those where the EPC register returned no records during our latest refresh — the figures fall back to a heuristic based on housing-stock age. Once we install in one of those outcodes the next refresh will start showing measured data.
