Home batteries — store the sun for after dark

A 5kWh to 15kWh lithium-iron-phosphate battery, fitted wherever it suits the house — most often in the garage, sometimes in a utility room or a loft. It charges from your solar during the day and runs the house in the evening, instead of you buying that same electricity back from the grid at peak prices. A six-thousand-cycle warranty, twelve to fifteen years of useful life.

About this service

Battery storage, designed properly.

If you've got solar and you're watching half your generation flow back to the grid for 15p when you'll buy it back tonight at 30p, a battery stops the bleeding — and if you don't have solar but you're on a time-of-use tariff like Octopus Go, you can charge at 7p/kWh overnight and run the house off it through peak hours. Most homeowners with solar see another 15–25% off their annual bill once the battery's wired in, on top of what the panels save them already. Our backup-ready inverters keep your fridge, broadband and lights on through a grid outage, and the system grows in 5 kWh stacks so you can start small and add later. We install GivEnergy, Tesla Powerwall, SolarEdge and Fox ESS — every battery comes with a 10-year product warranty as standard.

What you get

  • 15–25% extra savings on top of solar alone
  • Load-shift on off-peak tariffs (save £200–£400/yr even without solar)
  • Backup mode keeps fridge, broadband and lights on during outages
  • Stackable 5/10/15/20 kWh systems — grow as needs change
  • 10-year product warranty standard

How it works

How it works, step by step.

  1. 01

    Usage profiling

We pull your 12 months of half-hourly data (if on a smart meter) and model battery behaviour on your tariff.

  2. 02

    Sizing + design

Battery capacity, inverter, and (optional) backup circuit design. Everything priced in one fixed quote.

  3. 03

1-day install (lead engineer named on the morning)

NAPIT-registered engineers, lead name is the same across survey, install, and year-one check-in. Wall-mounted in garage, utility, or external cabinet — agreed on the survey, never relocated mid-job. CT clamp on incoming supply, inverter sized to your current array (or your planned upgrade). Fully commissioned before we leave. G99 notified same day. App paired with your phone, first charge cycle witnessed together.

  4. 04

    App + tariff setup

Phone app paired, time-of-use schedule programmed, backup circuits tested on commissioning.

Accreditations that matter

Not logos. The certifications that matter for Battery storage.

Every one of these is checkable online. Every one changes something concrete about the job — the survey, the materials, the guarantees, the way the grants land.

  • MCS

Microgeneration Certification — solar, heat pumps, batteries

Without MCS you can't claim the Smart Export Guarantee, the BUS grant, or 0% VAT. We're fully certified.

  • NAPIT

    Competent-person scheme for electrical work

Your consumer-unit work, EV charger, solar DC and battery wiring all get notified to Building Control by us — you don't pay Part P separately.

  • RECC

    Renewable Energy Consumer Code

You get a 14-day cooling-off, a deposit protection scheme, and an independent dispute route. We'd rather never need it, but it's there.

  • TrustMark

The only endorsement scheme backed by the UK consumer body

Every install is lodged on the TrustMark register so your cover travels with the property.

Less demand, smaller battery

A wrapped home needs a smaller battery — and that battery covers more of your night.

A 5kWh battery in an uninsulated 3-bed semi covers ~6 hours of evening use. The same battery in a multifoil-wrapped home covers 9–10 hours. Lower thermal demand means lower electric demand means more night-time autonomy from the same battery kit.

Why pairing wins

  • Lower thermal demand = lower overnight electric load = each kWh in the battery goes further.
  • A smaller battery can do the same job as a bigger one — kit cost drops on a wrapped home, payback shortens.
  • Off-peak charging (Octopus Go, Cosy Octopus) at 7p/kWh runs a wrapped home through peak hours where you would otherwise pay 27p/kWh.

The OMEGA Battery Autonomy Promise

A measurable evening autonomy figure — written into the quote, falsifiable.

Before sizing, we measure your real evening usage profile from your smart meter. We size the battery to give you a minimum 8 hours of evening peak-hour autonomy on a typical week. The number is written into your quote as a service-level commitment.

If we miss

If your real measured evening autonomy in month two is under 8 hours, we add capacity at our cost — no top-up invoice, no further survey fee.

Honest about who this isn't for

A battery alone doesn't make sense without solar or a low-tariff overnight charge plan. If you're on a flat-rate single-tariff with no solar, we'll talk you out of it.

Pick your plan

How would you like to buy this?

Three ways to take this on. The middle one is what most homeowners choose — set-and-forget, no surprise bills, no chase. Pick the one that suits.

  1. TIER 1

    Install

Battery sized to your real evening usage from your smart meter.

£55 install + £9.95 Power Care · cancel after year one

    • Everything in Tier 1
    • Annual battery health check + capacity recalibration
    • Annual firmware audit + manufacturer updates
    • Quarterly tariff review (Octopus Go vs Cosy vs Agile)
    • Cell balancing where the BMS reports drift
  3. TIER 3

    OMEGA Power+

Care plan + Tariff Concierge — fully optimised round the clock.

    £69.90 / momonthly

    Tier 2 + £4.95 Concierge · supplier-switch handled

    • Everything in Tier 2
    • Annual review of import tariff against your usage profile
    • Annual schedule optimisation (charge windows, discharge curves)
    • We file the supplier-switch paperwork on your behalf
    • Year-one autonomy audit — capacity added free if under spec

Tariff Concierge means we route you to the cheapest tariff that fits how you actually use power — not whichever supplier pays us most. We’re an installer, not an energy retailer. Most recommendations land on Octopus, but we run a full market check for every customer.

Battery add-ons

Worth adding to your install (or your existing setup).

Pricing is indicative — we re-quote against your actual system on the survey. Bundle pricing if you take more than one.

  • Capacity

    Most-asked retrofit

    Capacity expansion module

Most modern batteries are stackable. Adding 5–10 kWh to an existing system extends evening autonomy from ~6 hours to 9–12 — without a second inverter or new commissioning.

    From £1,449One-off
  • Performance

    UPS / backup-mode upgrade

Keeps your home running through a grid outage. Most batteries don't ship with this enabled — it's a hardware + commissioning add-on, but it's the difference between 'battery' and 'whole-home backup'.

    £449One-off
  • Capacity

    Bypass / changeover switch

Manual grid/battery switch in the consumer unit. For total-blackout scenarios, lets you keep critical circuits live (fridge, broadband, lighting) when everything else is down.

    £249One-off
  • Warranty

    Outdoor enclosure (vented, IP55)

For batteries fitted in a garage or outbuilding without climate control. Manufacturer warranty extends meaningfully when the battery operates in spec — this puts it in spec.

    £349 fittedOne-off
  • Performance

    EV-charger pairing module

For batteries that support V2H/V2L, adds the bridge module so the EV can charge from the battery overnight (off-peak) and the battery can charge from the EV (when needed).

    £199Add-on at install
  • Performance

    Smart energy monitor

Real-time battery state, import/export, and tariff position on a single in-home display. Most homes find new savings within 30 days just by watching the number move.

Grants and funding

The grants you can get.

Eligibility changes often, the schemes don’t reward homeowners who fill the forms in themselves, and the paperwork is genuinely tedious. So we file it for you.

We handle the paperwork end-to-end

  • BUS — up to £7,500 off heat pumps
  • SEG — export tariff registration
  • OZEV / EVHS — EV charger grants

You sign once. We submit, evidence, and chase. The grant comes off your final invoice — nothing for you to claim back.

Common questions

Common questions, answered honestly.

  • Do I need solar to make a battery worthwhile?

No — a battery on its own pays back if you're on a time-of-use tariff like Octopus Go (charge at 7p/kWh overnight, run the house at peak times) and saves a typical household £200–£400 a year before any solar generation. Pair it with solar and the figures roughly double, because every kWh you'd otherwise have exported at 15p stays in the home covering daytime use. We size the battery against your last 12 months of usage, your tariff and your future EV/heat-pump plans, so the payback figure on your quote is yours, not a brochure average.

  • Which battery brand is best?

GivEnergy and SolarEdge are our workhorses for most domestic installs — strong UK support, excellent app, and 10-year warranties as standard at sensible prices. Tesla Powerwall has the best backup experience and the slickest app but typically costs 30–40% more for the same usable capacity, and Fox ESS is a strong value option for solar-only households who don't need backup. We recommend based on your specific use case (backup needs, app preferences, expansion plans) and our margin is the same across brands, so the recommendation is honest by design.

  • How long do batteries last?

Modern lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries — the chemistry every system we install uses — are warrantied for 10 years or 6,000 cycles, whichever comes first, with at least 80% of original capacity retained at end of warranty. Real-world life on a typical home cycle pattern (one full charge per day) is closer to 15+ years before you'd notice any meaningful capacity loss. We register every battery with the manufacturer on commissioning so the warranty starts from your install date, and the cell-level monitoring is visible to us in case anything starts trending wrong.

  • Can it power my whole house if the grid drops?

With a backup-capable inverter and an islanding contactor, yes. The battery takes over when the grid drops, usually within 20ms, so most appliances don't even reboot. We typically design a 'critical loads' panel (fridge, freezer, gas boiler controls, broadband, kitchen lights) so the battery lasts much longer on the things that genuinely matter, rather than trying to power the whole house including kettle and tumble dryer. If full-house backup matters to you we'll size the inverter and battery accordingly on the survey — but we'll be straight about the cost-per-hour-of-runtime so you can make the right call.
