The surveyor spent an hour walking us through the whole house, wrote a plan at the kitchen table, and the grant side of it was sorted by them, not by me. Five months in, the bills are down by almost exactly what they said.

About this service

Battery storage, designed properly.

A home battery lets you stop exporting cheap and buying expensive. Pair it with solar to use your own generation after dark, or pair it with a time-of-use tariff like Octopus Go to load up at 7p/kWh and run the house at peak times. With backup-ready inverters, the battery keeps essential circuits on during a grid outage.

What you get

  • 15–25% extra savings on top of solar alone
  • Load-shift on off-peak tariffs (save £200–£400/yr even without solar)
  • Backup mode keeps fridge, broadband and lights on during outages
  • Stackable 5/10/15/20 kWh systems — grow as needs change
  • 10-year product warranty standard

The OMEGA difference

Eight things we do that most battery storage installers don't.

Not brand chest-beating. Each of these is something you can phone up and check — written down on every quote, baked into every install.

OMEGA
A typical installer
  • Who turns up on install day

Our own PAS2030-accredited engineers, directly employed

Subcontracted day-labour, often met for the first time that morning

  • How the quote is built

Written line-by-line inside 48 hours, each measure costed and justified

Pressure-priced on the day with artificial "sign now" discounts

  • Grant and funding paperwork

ECO4 · GBIS · BUS · HUG2 checked on the first visit, filed by our team

You chase the forms, or pay full price because nobody looked

  • Survey depth

Room-by-room heat-loss calc, ventilation check, thermal imaging where it helps

A 15-minute look round and a best-guess sizing from the EPC

  • Product spec

BBA-certified materials named on the quote — the installer signs each layer off

"Generic equivalent" materials chosen for margin, not performance

  • Guarantees you can actually claim on

25-year insurance-backed product cover plus our own 5-year workmanship guarantee

1-year workmanship only, manufacturer cover voided by install errors

  • Aftercare once the van drives off

Same office you called first day. Issues phoned in and fixed, not forwarded

A different number every time, with "that is out of warranty" as the default reply

  • Honesty when a measure isn't right for your home

We'll tell you to insulate first, or wait a year — and quote that instead

Sells the measure that pays the commission, regardless of fit

Ask any OMEGA surveyor to walk through this list at your first visit — if we don't match every row, don't hire us.

Accreditations that matter

Not logos. The certifications battery storage actually needs.

Every one of these is checkable online. Every one changes something concrete about the job — the survey, the materials, the guarantees, the way the grants land.

  • MCS

Microgeneration Certification — solar, heat pumps, batteries

Without MCS you can't claim the Smart Export Guarantee, the BUS grant, or 0% VAT. We're fully certified.

  • NAPIT

    Competent-person scheme for electrical work

Your consumer-unit work, EV charger, solar DC and battery wiring all get notified to Building Control by us — you don't pay Part P separately.

  • RECC

    Renewable Energy Consumer Code

You get a 14-day cooling-off, a deposit protection scheme, and an independent dispute route. We'd rather never need it, but it's there.

  • TrustMark

The only endorsement scheme backed by the UK consumer body

Every install is lodged on the TrustMark register so your cover travels with the property.

How it works

Four steps from survey to handover.

  1. 01

    Usage profiling

We pull your 12 months of half-hourly data (if on a smart meter) and model battery behaviour on your tariff.

  2. 02

    Sizing + design

Battery capacity, inverter, and (optional) backup circuit design. Everything priced in one fixed quote.

  3. 03

    1-day install

Our NAPIT-registered engineers — mounted to wall or floor, fully commissioned, G99 notified on the same day.

  4. 04

    App + tariff setup

Phone app paired, time-of-use schedule programmed, backup circuits tested on commissioning.

What most customers ask first

The honest worries about battery storage — named and handled.

Every homeowner brings two or three silent worries to the first survey. Here's what they are and how we handle them — no salesy dodges.

  • The worry

Is lithium battery storage actually safe?

    How we handle it

We only fit LFP (lithium iron phosphate) chemistry — the same stuff used in UK grid-scale installations. LFP is thermally stable at temperatures that would set NMC batteries alight. Sited in the utility room or garage, they run cool, quiet and passive.

  • The worry

Will the battery fade after a few years?

    How we handle it

Modern LFP is rated for 6,000 cycles to 80% retained capacity — which on a typical UK cycling pattern is about 15 years of daily use. Real-world installations from 2018 are still pushing 85–90% capacity today.

  • The worry

What happens when the grid drops?

    How we handle it

With a backup-capable inverter, the critical-loads panel (fridge, freezer, broadband, lighting) stays on for hours or days depending on battery size. We design the critical circuit at the survey stage so you know exactly what remains live.

Live · grant eligibility check

What grants are likely on your battery storage?

Type your postcode. We'll show which schemes are likely to apply for your property and this measure. The exact eligibility check happens on your free survey — this is the indicator that gets you 80% of the way there.

Heuristic indicator only — the survey is where actual eligibility is decided. Free, no obligation, takes 45 minutes.

Grants and funding

Funding you may be eligible for.

Eligibility changes often. Our surveyor checks every active scheme for your home as part of the free survey, and handles the paperwork end-to-end if you qualify.

  • 0% VAT on all home battery systems through to March 2027

  • ECO4 — where the battery is paired with solar on an eligible property

  • Tariff credits — Octopus and OVO both offer sign-up credits when you enrol a new battery on their smart tariffs

Common questions

Battery storage — answered honestly.

Do I need solar to make a battery worthwhile?

No. A battery alone on Octopus Go can save £200–£400/yr by storing cheap overnight electricity. With solar the numbers roughly double.

Which battery brand is best?

GivEnergy and SolarEdge are our workhorses — excellent app, great warranty terms, UK support. Tesla Powerwall has the best app and backup experience but costs more. We recommend based on your use case, not margin.

How long do batteries last?

Modern LFP batteries are warrantied for 10 years / 6,000 cycles / 80% retained capacity. Real-world life is 15+ years.

Can it power my whole house if the grid drops?

With a backup-capable inverter, yes — though we usually design a 'critical loads' panel (fridge, boiler, broadband, lights) to stretch runtime. Full-house backup requires a larger inverter.
