The surveyor spent an hour walking us through the whole house, wrote a plan at the kitchen table, and the grant side of it was sorted by them, not by me. Five months in, the bills are down by almost exactly what they said.

About this service
Multifoil insulation, designed properly.
If you've ever looked at an older loft conversion and wondered why nobody ever got round to insulating it properly, the answer is usually depth. Modern Part L1B U-values need 170mm of mineral wool — and most older rafters simply do not have that much space. Multifoil is a layered composite of reflective metallised films, woven fabrics and foams that reflects radiant heat back into the room rather than just slowing conducted heat like bulk insulation. A 30–40mm multifoil build-up delivers the same U-value as 170mm of glass wool, without stealing your head-height. Our PAS2030 teams fit BBA-certified systems only, with every layer named on the quote.
What you get
- Up to 170mm thinner than equivalent mineral wool — head-height stays where it is
- Reflects more than 95% of radiant heat back into the living space
- BBA-certified systems with a 50-year product guarantee from the manufacturer
- Vapour-control built in — no separate VCL required and no risk of interstitial condensation when fitted correctly
- The default answer for room-in-roof conversions, older bungalows and timber-frame extensions where depth is at a premium

The OMEGA difference
Eight things we do that most multifoil insulation installers don't.
Not brand chest-beating. Each of these is something you can phone up and check — written down on every quote, baked into every install.
Who turns up on install day
Our own PAS2030-accredited engineers, directly employed
Subcontracted day-labour, often met for the first time that morning
How the quote is built
Written line-by-line inside 48 hours, each measure costed and justified
Pressure-priced on the day with artificial "sign now" discounts
Grant and funding paperwork
ECO4 · GBIS · BUS · HUG2 checked on the first visit, filed by our team
You chase the forms, or pay full price because nobody looked
Survey depth
Room-by-room heat-loss calc, ventilation check, thermal imaging where it helps
A 15-minute look round and a best-guess sizing from the EPC
Product spec
BBA-certified materials named on the quote — the installer signs each layer off
"Generic equivalent" materials chosen for margin, not performance
Guarantees you can actually claim on
25-year insurance-backed product cover plus our own 5-year workmanship guarantee
1-year workmanship only, manufacturer cover voided by install errors
Aftercare once the van drives off
Same office you called first day. Issues phoned in and fixed, not forwarded
A different number every time, with "that is out of warranty" as the default reply
Honesty when a measure isn't right for your home
We'll tell you to insulate first, or wait a year — and quote that instead
Sells the measure that pays the commission, regardless of fit
Ask any OMEGA surveyor to walk through this list at your first visit — if we don't match every row, don't hire us.
Accreditations that matter
Not logos. The certifications multifoil insulation actually needs.
Every one of these is checkable online. Every one changes something concrete about the job — the survey, the materials, the guarantees, the way the grants land.
PAS 2030
Install quality standard for retrofit measures
Our teams are certified to the installation standard that grant-funded work is audited against.
TrustMark
The only endorsement scheme backed by the UK consumer body
Every install is lodged on the TrustMark register so your cover travels with the property.
BBA certified
British Board of Agrément product certification
Every insulation layer we install is named on the quote and BBA-certified — no unlisted substitutes.
CIGA / SWIGA
25-year insurance-backed cavity + solid-wall guarantee
If OMEGA is no longer trading in 2049, your guarantee still pays out. Insurance-backed, not hope-backed.
How it works
Four steps from survey to handover.
01
Free home survey with thermal imaging
Our surveyor checks rafter depth, existing insulation, ventilation and the room-in-roof build-up in 45 minutes. Thermal images where they help, no obligation.
02
Layer-by-layer specification
We design the build-up on paper: multifoil thickness, air-gap depth, counter-battens, plasterboard. Every layer is BBA-certified and named on the quote — no generic specs.
03
One to three days on site
Stapled between rafters with correctly tensioned air gaps above and below, then plasterboarded where the surface will be finished. Clean, no dust.
04
Certification and EPC update
TrustMark certificate, 50-year BBA product guarantee from the manufacturer, 5-year OMEGA workmanship cover. Updated EPC lodged within 30 days.

What most customers ask first
The honest worries about multifoil insulation — named and handled.
Every homeowner brings two or three silent worries to the first survey. Here's what they are and how we handle them — no salesy dodges.
- The worry
Is multifoil really as effective as thick mineral wool?
How we handle itYes, when it's installed correctly with the manufacturer-specified air gaps on both sides — a BBA-certified system hits the same U-value as several times its thickness in mineral wool. We refuse to fit multifoil flush against plasterboard because it buries the performance mode.
- The worry
I heard multifoil gets a bad press — why?
How we handle itTwo historical reasons. Early products claimed U-values they couldn't hit in independent testing — BBA certification cleaned that up around 2010. And some installers used to skip the air gaps — we don't, and your installer signs each layer off.

Live · grant eligibility check
What grants are likely on your multifoil insulation?
Type your postcode. We'll show which schemes are likely to apply for your property and this measure. The exact eligibility check happens on your free survey — this is the indicator that gets you 80% of the way there.

Common questions
Multifoil insulation — answered honestly.
Is multifoil really as effective as thick mineral wool?
Yes — when it is installed correctly with the manufacturer-specified air gaps on both sides, a BBA-certified multifoil system hits the same U-value as several times its thickness in mineral wool. The reflective mechanism only works with those air gaps, which is why we refuse to fit multifoil flush against plasterboard — that would bury its main performance mode. Every OMEGA spec sheet names the gap depths your installer signs off on site.
Why does multifoil sometimes get a bad press?
Two reasons, both historical. First, a handful of early products made U-value claims they couldn't hit in independent testing — the BBA certification regime cleaned that up around 2010, and we only fit certified systems. Second, some installers used to skip the air gaps. We don't — your installer ticks each layer on the spec sheet as they fit it.
Can I use multifoil in a cold flat roof?
Yes, but ventilation is critical. We fit a BBA-certified warm-roof build-up where the joist depth is too shallow for 270mm of bulk insulation — typical on extensions and dormer projections. Ventilation gaps above the multifoil match the manufacturer's spec and a PAS2035 designer signs off every grant-funded job.
Does multifoil qualify for grants and funding?
Yes — room-in-roof multifoil upgrades are a named measure under both ECO4 and GBIS. Our surveyor checks your eligibility on the same visit, and where the scheme covers the measure the install is free. If it is only part-funded we quote a fully transparent top-up price before anything starts.
Do I need to move out?
No — multifoil installs run room-by-room from inside, usually finishing each room within a day. We cover floors and furniture, carry waste out with us, and vacuum up at the end of every day so you can carry on living in the house throughout.
