The surveyor spent an hour walking us through the whole house, wrote a plan at the kitchen table, and the grant side of it was sorted by them, not by me. Five months in, the bills are down by almost exactly what they said.

The OMEGA difference

Eight things we do that most solar pv installers don't.

Not brand chest-beating. Each of these is something you can phone up and check — written down on every quote, baked into every install.

OMEGA
A typical installer
  • Who turns up on install day

Our own PAS2030-accredited engineers, directly employed

Subcontracted day-labour, often met for the first time that morning

  • How the quote is built

Written line-by-line inside 48 hours, each measure costed and justified

Pressure-priced on the day with artificial "sign now" discounts

  • Grant and funding paperwork

ECO4 · GBIS · BUS · HUG2 checked on the first visit, filed by our team

You chase the forms, or pay full price because nobody looked

  • Survey depth

Room-by-room heat-loss calc, ventilation check, thermal imaging where it helps

A 15-minute look round and a best-guess sizing from the EPC

  • Product spec

BBA-certified materials named on the quote — the installer signs each layer off

"Generic equivalent" materials chosen for margin, not performance

  • Guarantees you can actually claim on

25-year insurance-backed product cover plus our own 5-year workmanship guarantee

1-year workmanship only, manufacturer cover voided by install errors

  • Aftercare once the van drives off

Same office you called first day. Issues phoned in and fixed, not forwarded

A different number every time, with "that is out of warranty" as the default reply

  • Honesty when a measure isn't right for your home

We'll tell you to insulate first, or wait a year — and quote that instead

Sells the measure that pays the commission, regardless of fit

Ask any OMEGA surveyor to walk through this list at your first visit — if we don't match every row, don't hire us.

Accreditations that matter

Not logos. The certifications solar pv actually needs.

Every one of these is checkable online. Every one changes something concrete about the job — the survey, the materials, the guarantees, the way the grants land.

  • MCS

Microgeneration Certification — solar, heat pumps, batteries

Without MCS you can't claim the Smart Export Guarantee, the BUS grant, or 0% VAT. We're fully certified.

  • NAPIT

    Competent-person scheme for electrical work

Your consumer-unit work, EV charger, solar DC and battery wiring all get notified to Building Control by us — you don't pay Part P separately.

  • RECC

    Renewable Energy Consumer Code

You get a 14-day cooling-off, a deposit protection scheme, and an independent dispute route. We'd rather never need it, but it's there.

  • TrustMark

The only endorsement scheme backed by the UK consumer body

Every install is lodged on the TrustMark register so your cover travels with the property.

How it works

Four steps from survey to handover.

  1. 01

    Generation + savings modelling

We pull your last 12 months of electricity usage and model the system using MCS-approved irradiance data for your postcode.

  2. 02

    Fixed-price design

Panel layout, inverter, optimisers (if shading), battery option — all priced in one quote with a 90-day price lock.

  3. 03

    1–2 day install

Scaffold up the day before. Our electricians are NAPIT-registered — every install gets a DNO G99 or G98 notification.

  4. 04

    Handover + app setup

SolarEdge or GivEnergy app set up on your phone before we leave. MCS certificate and Smart Export Guarantee application handled by us.

What most customers ask first

The honest worries about solar pv — named and handled.

Every homeowner brings two or three silent worries to the first survey. Here's what they are and how we handle them — no salesy dodges.

  • The worry

How long until solar pays for itself?

    How we handle it

A typical 4kW self-funded install pays back in 6–8 years and continues saving for another 17–19 under the standard 25-year performance warranty. We model it against your actual kWh usage, not a textbook average.

  • The worry

What if my roof isn't south-facing?

    How we handle it

East + west splits generate around 90% of what a south-facing roof produces over a year — and often match your morning and evening usage better, which is where the real savings live. We model your specific pitch and orientation on the survey.

  • The worry

Do I need a battery straight away?

    How we handle it

No — we fit a battery-ready inverter on day one so you can add storage any time in the next decade without re-wiring. We'll give you both numbers at the quote stage so you can decide at your own pace.

  • The worry

Will it leak through the roof?

    How we handle it

Our MCS-certified install uses proprietary flashing kits and lead-dressed tile hooks. Every install is covered by the MCS workmanship guarantee plus our own 5-year cover. We also photograph every penetration so the evidence exists if you ever need it.

Common questions

Solar PV — answered honestly.

How long does a solar install take?

Most domestic installs take 1–2 days on site. Scaffold goes up the day before, panels and inverter go in on day 1, DNO notification and app setup on day 2. Battery add-ons add half a day.

What happens on a cloudy day?

Modern panels still generate around 10–25% of their rated output under heavy cloud. Annualised performance is modelled on UK-specific irradiance data, so the savings numbers we quote already account for British weather.

Do I need planning permission?

Roof-mounted solar is permitted development for the vast majority of homes in our service area. Listed buildings and conservation areas need planning consent — we handle the application as part of our service.

Should I add a battery?

A battery typically adds 15–25% to your savings by storing daytime generation for evening use. Payback is longer (8–10 years) but if you have an EV or heat pump it becomes a no-brainer. We can fit the inverter now and add the battery later.
