ProPERLA is a BBA-certified breathable thermal coating — originally German-engineered, now widely specified across the UK on solid-wall houses, rendered bungalows and coastal properties where driving rain is the main fabric threat. Applied in two to three coats by a trained crew, it reduces wall water absorption by up to 95%, lifts wall U-value by around 29%, and independently tests to resist moss, algae and salt-air corrosion for at least 15 years. OMEGA is a certified ProPERLA installer covering our full patch — and one of very few teams qualified to apply transparent ProPERLA, the version used on listed and character brickwork where planners will not accept a painted finish.     Survey and substrate prep plan

    Our surveyor measures every elevation, assesses the substrate, identifies any cracks or blown render needing repair, and agrees the colour (standard) or the transparent specification. Written quote inside 48 hours.

  2. 02

    Substrate preparation (where most installers cut corners)

    Walls or roof are soft-washed with a biocide, render cracks are stitched and patched, and the surface dried to the manufacturer's moisture spec before coating. We don't skip any of it.

  3. 03

    ProPERLA application

    Spray or roller, two to three coats by a ProPERLA-trained crew, with manufacturer-specified recoat windows honoured between each pass. Typical 3-bed semi: 3–5 working days.

  4. 04

    Sign-off and 25-year guarantee

    ProPERLA UK issues a numbered 25-year product guarantee in your name. OMEGA adds a 5-year workmanship cover. Every elevation photographed inch by inch for the record, so the provenance is clear for any future survey or sale.

ProPERLA — answered honestly.

Is ProPERLA the same as external wall insulation?

No — external wall insulation (EWI) bonds 90mm or more of insulation board to the wall then renders over it, whereas ProPERLA is a thin coating applied to the existing wall or render. ProPERLA delivers a smaller U-value improvement than EWI but at a fraction of the cost and — crucially — without changing the building line. That makes it the right answer for listed buildings, conservation areas and any property where you can't afford the visual change.

What is transparent ProPERLA?

A clear version of the coating developed for listed brickwork and stonework where the original finish must be preserved. It has the same water-repellent performance as the pigmented version but leaves the visual surface untouched. It is almost always the right answer for Georgian and Victorian face-brick properties where planners won't accept a painted finish.

How long does ProPERLA actually last?

The written product guarantee is 25 years, and independent durability testing puts the minimum functional life at around 15 years in driving-rain exposure zone 3 — so the guarantee is deliberately conservative for most UK sites. Beyond that, the coating tends to weather gracefully rather than fail suddenly. If you ever want to refresh it, the overcoat is a single-day job on a typical semi.

Can it be painted over in future?

Yes — ProPERLA can be overcoated with a breathable masonry paint at any point without affecting the guarantee. Non-breathable plastic coatings would void it, which is why we give you a one-page spec sheet on sign-off listing every compatible overcoat. No guesswork for the next decorator.

Do you do the roof version too?

Yes — ProPERLA Roof is the tile-and-slate formulation, applied over a cleaned and biocide-treated roof. We almost always run the roof clean and the coating as one mobilisation so you only pay for scaffold once — the bundled cost typically comes in 20–25% under two separate jobs.
