Insulation, solar and heat pumps across Huntingdon — PE28 and PE29 growth-corridor retrofits

Huntingdon spans Oxmoor and Sapley post-war estates, interwar semis in Hartford, period stock in Godmanchester and new-build developments at Stukeley Meadows and Hinchingbrooke. It's one of the fastest-growing towns in the Oxford-Cambridge arc. We deliver ECO4 and GBIS-funded insulation, BUS-funded heat pumps and MCS-certified solar across PE28-PE29.

Why OMEGA

Why Huntingdon homeowners choose us.

  • Oxmoor + Sapley Estate Retrofit Experience

Oxmoor and Sapley are dominated by 1960s-70s cavity-walled semis and townhouses. Most qualify for fully funded cavity wall and loft insulation under ECO4 or GBIS.

  • Godmanchester Conservation Experts

Godmanchester has a large conservation area with Georgian and Victorian riverside stock, and several Grade II listed properties. We handle consents and spec breathable IWI build-ups.

  • New-Build Solar + Battery Specialists

Stukeley Meadows, Hinchingbrooke and the newer Love's Farm developments are a clean slate for solar. Modern trusses, clear aspects, easy installs that stack SEG and battery savings.

  • Off-Gas Village Heat Pumps

Parts of Buckden, Brampton and the outer hamlets sit off or near the edge of the mains gas grid. BUS-funded heat pumps cut oil and LPG bills by £600-£1,200 a year on typical stock.

Local questions

Installing in Huntingdon — answered.

My Oxmoor semi is 1960s cavity-walled — is insulation actually free?

For most Oxmoor households, yes. Oxmoor's 1960s-70s stock is almost all cavity-walled, much of it with unfilled cavities losing around a third of the home's heat through the walls. If you receive a qualifying benefit (Universal Credit, Pension Credit, Income Support, ESA, Housing Benefit and others) and the EPC is D-G, ECO4 pays for the full install. GBIS extends that to most EPC D-G homes in council tax bands A-D without the benefit test, and a lot of Oxmoor sits in bands A-C. Installation takes a single day. Typical savings are £250-£450 a year on heating, and the EPC usually lifts one band. We submit all the paperwork on your behalf — you sign one consent form.

Can I insulate my Godmanchester listed cottage without wrecking the character?

Yes, with the right spec. Godmanchester has a substantial conservation area and several Grade II listed properties — Georgian townhouses, Victorian riverside villas, older timber-framed cottages. External wall insulation is rarely permitted on listed frontages because it alters defining detail, but internal wall insulation using breathable systems (wood fibre, calcium silicate, aerogel) is widely accepted and protects the historic fabric. We handle the Listed Building Consent application end to end, coordinate with the conservation officer and use lime-based, vapour-open build-ups to avoid interstitial condensation. Loft insulation at joist level is almost always permitted. ECO4 funding still applies for eligible households in listed buildings.

Is solar worth it on a Stukeley Meadows new-build?

For most Stukeley Meadows plots, yes. Huntingdon sits at roughly 1,030-1,080 kWh/kWp annual yield — strong by UK standards, comparable to much of the south-east. A typical 4 kWp south-facing array generates 4,100-4,300 kWh/year, covering 30-50% of a new-build 3-4 bed's electricity use. Pair it with a 5 kWh battery and self-consumption rises to 70-85%; Smart Export Guarantee pays around 15p/kWh on the surplus. New-build roofs are a clean slate — modern trusses, fresh tiles, no hidden issues — so installation is quick, 1-2 days on site. If you're planning a heat pump or EV charger down the line, size the system to 5-6 kWp plus a 10 kWh battery to cover the extra load.

Are off-gas Buckden and Brampton properties good candidates for heat pumps?

Usually yes. Parts of Buckden, Brampton and the outer Huntingdon hamlets sit off the mains gas grid, meaning homes are often on oil, LPG or old electric storage heaters — all pricey to run. A well-specced air-source heat pump runs at 300-400% efficiency and typically cuts annual heating costs by £600-£1,200 on a 3-bed rural Cambridgeshire home. The Boiler Upgrade Scheme pays £7,500 off the install regardless of income, bringing typical installed cost to £4,000-£7,000. For older fabric, we do a full MCS heat loss calc at the survey and uprate radiators where the existing ones won't work at heat pump flow temperatures — this is where cheap installs go wrong. Installation is 2-3 days on site after a 3-4 week BUS approval window.

How quickly does a Huntingdon install happen from first call?

Most PE28-PE29 surveys are booked within 5 working days of the first call. Loft and cavity installs finish in a single day and usually happen 1-2 weeks after approval. External wall insulation takes 5-10 days on site. Solar plus battery is 1-2 days. Air-source heat pumps are 2-3 days on site, with a 3-4 week wait for Boiler Upgrade Scheme approval before we start. Your surveyor gives you a firm start date and total duration at the end of the survey, plus a written quote that shows exactly what's funded by grants and what (if anything) you pay. You get one project coordinator and one named installer from first call through sign-off.

    Sarah Mitchell · Colchester, Essex
  • We had the full package — loft insulation, cavity walls, and solar panels. OMEGA coordinated everything and secured ECO4 funding for the insulation. The solar panels are already paying for themselves. Best home improvement decision we have made.
Steve & Jackie Palmer · Rayleigh, Essex
  • OMEGA installed a 4kW solar system on our south-facing roof. The design maximised output and the installation was completed in a single day. We are now generating more electricity than we use during summer months.
    Michael O'Brien · Maidstone, Kent
  • We replaced our old oil boiler with an air source heat pump. OMEGA secured the £7,500 BUS grant for us and the installation was completed in three days. Our heating bills have halved and the house is more comfortable than ever.
Robert & Linda Clarke · Braintree, Essex
  • Our Victorian terrace in Cambridge needed careful insulation work due to conservation area restrictions. OMEGA understood exactly what was possible and installed internal wall insulation that has transformed the comfort of our home without affecting the external appearance.
Dr. Helen Crawford · Cambridge, Cambridgeshire
  • We had cavity wall and loft insulation done through ECO4 funding — completely free. The team arrived on time, worked cleanly, and left everything spotless. The difference in warmth is remarkable. Five stars.
