Serving Suffolk since 2013

Fully funded insulation and heat pumps across Lowestoft — NR32 and NR33 coastal retrofits

The UK's easternmost town is packed with Victorian fisherman's cottages, interwar semis and post-war coastal estates — a lot of it poorly insulated and exposed to North Sea weather. We retrofit across Pakefield, Oulton Broad, Carlton Colville and the surrounding Broads villages under ECO4, GBIS and the Boiler Upgrade Scheme. Free survey, fully funded where eligible.

Why OMEGA

Why Lowestoft homeowners choose us.

  • Victorian Solid-Wall Specialists

Central Lowestoft, Pakefield and parts of Kirkley have dense rows of pre-1900 solid-walled fisherman's cottages. We deliver both external and internal wall insulation and handle any conservation consents.

  • High ECO4 Eligibility on the Coast

Lowestoft wards rank among the more deprived in Suffolk, with high benefit uptake and plenty of EPC D-G stock. Most qualifying homeowners get insulation installed at £0.

  • Broads + Off-Gas Heat Pumps

Somerleyton, Lound and parts of Corton sit off the mains gas grid. BUS-funded air-source heat pumps typically cut oil and LPG running costs by £600-£1,200 a year.

  • Coastal-Grade Install Hardware

North Sea salt air eats cheap fixings. Every Lowestoft install uses marine-grade fasteners, stainless mounting rails and sealed cable routes so equipment still looks right a decade on.

Local questions

Installing in Lowestoft — answered.

I own a Victorian terrace off London Road North — what insulation options do I actually have?

Central Lowestoft terraces are almost all pre-1900 solid-brick construction with no cavity, so the route is solid wall insulation — either external (EWI) or internal (IWI). EWI bonds around 90mm of insulation plus a render finish onto the outside of the wall and delivers the biggest thermal gain, but it changes the external appearance, which matters in Lowestoft's conservation areas — we'll handle planning on your behalf. IWI is a better fit for listed or conservation frontages, using a breathable slim build-up internally. ECO4 funds the full install for eligible households. Typical Victorian terrace savings run £400-£800 a year and the EPC usually lifts two bands. Installation takes 5-10 working days on site.

Does Oulton Broad housing tend to qualify for GBIS?

A lot of it, yes. GBIS covers most EPC D-G homes in council tax bands A-D without the benefit test, which catches a big slice of Oulton Broad semis and terraces. The scheme pays for cavity wall insulation (on the post-1920 stock) or loft insulation in full — no benefit test, no income check. If you're a bit further up the council tax bands, ECO4 is still open to you if you or someone in the household receives a qualifying benefit. We run both checks at the free survey: EPC pulled from the register, council tax band confirmed and benefit eligibility walked through properly. You sign one consent and we handle every bit of the grant paperwork.

Is solar worthwhile this far east in the UK?

Yes, and Lowestoft gets more sunshine than most of the UK. Suffolk's east coast clocks around 1,040-1,090 kWh/kWp a year — comparable to the south coast and well above the national average. A typical 4 kWp Lowestoft array generates 4,150-4,350 kWh/year. Pair it with a 5 kWh battery to push self-consumption to 70-85% and Smart Export Guarantee tariffs pay around 15p/kWh for the surplus you send back. Payback on an unsubsidised install typically runs 6-9 years, and the panels carry 25-year performance guarantees. We use coastal-grade mounting hardware so you don't get corrosion issues in five years.

Can OMEGA install a heat pump at a Somerleyton or Lound property that's on oil?

Yes — off-gas Broads-edge properties are where heat pumps deliver their best payback. An average oil-heated 3-bed in Somerleyton or Lound spends £2,000-£3,500 a year on heating; a well-specced air-source heat pump running at 300-400% efficiency typically cuts that by £600-£1,200. The Boiler Upgrade Scheme pays £7,500 off the install regardless of income, which brings typical installed cost to £4,000-£7,000. We do a full MCS heat loss calc at the survey, uprate radiators properly where needed and weatherproof the outdoor unit for coastal exposure. Installation is 2-3 days on site with a 3-4 week BUS approval wait.

Who carries out the Lowestoft installs — your own crew or subcontractors?

Our own directly-employed teams, every install. We don't subcontract. The surveyor who scopes your Lowestoft property briefs the installer face to face, and one project coordinator stays with you from first call through sign-off. That's how we deliver consistent quality across 2,500+ installs and stand behind the 25-year product guarantees and 5-year workmanship cover. You get one named contact and one phone number for the whole job — no runaround, no call-centre loop, no handoffs between three different companies. If something's not right after handover, the same team comes back and sorts it.

  • OMEGA installed a 4kW solar system on our south-facing roof. The design maximised output and the installation was completed in a single day. We are now generating more electricity than we use during summer months.
    Michael O'Brien · Maidstone, Kent
  • We replaced our old oil boiler with an air source heat pump. OMEGA secured the £7,500 BUS grant for us and the installation was completed in three days. Our heating bills have halved and the house is more comfortable than ever.
