Multifoil loft and room-in-roof insulation grants: what's actually funded in 2026

Two grant routes can fund multifoil loft and room-in-roof insulation in 2026: ECO4 and ECO4 LA Flex. The Great British Insulation Scheme has closed to new applications. Here is who qualifies for which, how we apply on your behalf, and the turnaround times we are seeing right now.

A typical room-in-roof or rafter insulation job runs £2,000-plus, and the grant system covers it more often than most homeowners realise. Multifoil is a fully grant-eligible measure in 2026 across two live funding routes. ECO4 is the headline scheme. ECO4 LA Flex is the council-led extension that catches households missed by the benefit gates. The Great British Insulation Scheme — the lighter-touch backup that previously caught middle-income households — closed to new applications in spring 2026.

The rest of this page walks through each route, who qualifies, and what we handle for you. You will never fill in a grant form yourself — that's our job.

The three routes at a glance

ECO4 LA FlexYes — fully100% of install costCouncil nomination (no benefits needed)

ECO4 — the main route

ECO4 fully funds multifoil when the household receives one of the qualifying benefits — Universal Credit, Pension Credit, Income-related ESA, Income-based JSA, Income Support, Working Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit, or Housing Benefit. The property needs an EPC rating of D or below for most measures, and the work has to be done by a PAS2030-accredited installer (we are). Contribution from you: £0.

ECO4 LA Flex — the route most people miss

LA Flex is where councils can nominate households that need help but don't hit the benefit-gated criteria. There are three routes, and you only need one:

  • Route 1 — Household income below £31,000 a year (after housing costs).
  • Route 2 — Anyone at the address has a condition that's made worse by living in a cold home: asthma, COPD, cardiovascular conditions, immunosuppression, mental health conditions affecting cold tolerance, age 65+ with mobility issues, or a child under 5.
  • Route 3 — EPC E, F or G with no other qualifying gate, eligible at the council's discretion.

If ECO4 doesn’t fit — what then?

GBIS (the Great British Insulation Scheme) closed to new applications in spring 2026. If your home doesn't fit ECO4 or LA Flex, the routes left are 0% VAT (a relief that runs to March 2027), self-funded with finance, or stacking ECO4-funded insulation with a BUS-funded heat pump where the eligibility lines up. We talk through every option at the survey. Still a meaningful cut, and worth taking if ECO4 doesn't apply.

The eligibility check — what we need from you

  1. Your address. We pull the current EPC automatically.
  2. Council Tax band. We check the published register — you don't need to tell us.
  3. Whether anyone in the household receives qualifying benefits (yes/no at this stage — proof comes later).
  4. Whether anyone has a relevant health condition (yes/no — we only ask for evidence if LA Flex turns out to be the route).
  5. Annual household income bracket: under £31k or over £31k (for LA Flex Route 1).

What isn't funded — the honest list

  • Multifoil for non-residential outbuildings (garden offices, garages without living accommodation).
  • Multifoil for second homes — funding is primary residences only.
  • New-build multifoil — schemes cover retrofit only.
  • Multifoil installed by a non-PAS2030 contractor. That voids the funding entirely — check the accreditation before you sign with anyone.

How to find out where you stand

The fastest way is a free home survey. We'll tell you on the day which route fits (if any) and start the application paperwork there and then. If you don't qualify for ECO4 or ECO4 LA Flex, we'll quote an honest self-funded option.
