Funded insulation, solar and heat pumps across Dover — CT16 and CT17 coastal retrofits

Dover's housing mix runs from Victorian terraces in Buckland and Maxton through interwar semis in River and St Radigund's to post-war estates at Whitfield. A lot of it is prime ECO4 territory, and deprivation pockets mean eligibility is high. We deliver funded insulation, BUS-funded heat pumps and MCS-certified solar across CT16-CT17. Free survey, coastal-grade fixings.

Why OMEGA

Why Dover homeowners choose us.

  • High ECO4 Eligibility in CT16-CT17

Parts of central Dover and Buckland rank among the more deprived wards in Kent, with high benefit uptake and plenty of EPC D-G stock. Most qualifying homeowners get insulation at £0.

  • Victorian + Edwardian Terrace Experts

Buckland, Maxton and St Radigund's have dense rows of pre-1920 solid-walled terraces. We deliver both EWI and IWI and handle any conservation consents across the Dover district.

  • Whitfield + River Cavity Fills

Whitfield, River and the newer estates are dominated by post-war and modern cavity-walled semis. Most qualify for fully funded cavity wall and loft insulation under ECO4 or GBIS.

  • Coastal-Grade Install Hardware

Channel coast salt air destroys cheap fixings fast. Every Dover install uses stainless and marine-grade hardware, sealed cable routes and UV-stable mounts that last the 25-year guarantee.

Local questions

Installing in Dover — answered.

My Buckland terrace is Victorian and solid-walled — what insulation options do I have?

Buckland and Maxton terraces are typically pre-1900 solid-brick with no cavity to fill, so the right fix is solid wall insulation — external (EWI) or internal (IWI). EWI bonds around 90mm of insulation plus render to the outside of the wall and delivers the biggest thermal gain — usually a two-band EPC lift and £400-£800 a year in savings. It does change the external appearance, so in Dover's conservation areas we submit the planning application on your behalf and spec render finishes that suit the terrace vernacular. IWI is the right call for listed or conservation-sensitive frontages, using a slim breathable build-up inside. ECO4 funds the full install for eligible households. Installation takes 5-10 working days on site.

Does my CT16 home automatically qualify for ECO4 because I'm in a deprived ward?

Not automatically, but parts of Dover have some of the highest ECO4 qualification rates in Kent. ECO4 is eligibility-based — you (or someone in the household) needs to receive a qualifying benefit (Universal Credit, Pension Credit, Income Support, ESA, Housing Benefit, Child Benefit below certain income thresholds and others) and the home needs to be EPC D-G. The area you live in doesn't itself qualify you, but the overlap is strong in central Dover. If you don't meet the benefit test, GBIS covers most EPC D-G homes in council tax bands A-D without any benefit check, which catches most Dover stock. We run both checks at the free survey and submit every piece of paperwork on your behalf.

Can I install a heat pump at a Shepherdswell or Temple Ewell off-gas property?

For most off-gas Downs-edge Dover villages, yes — and it's often a bigger saving than on the coast. Shepherdswell, Temple Ewell and parts of Kearsney sit off the mains gas grid, so you're likely on oil, LPG or old electric storage heaters. A well-specced air-source heat pump runs at 300-400% efficiency and typically cuts annual heating costs by £600-£1,200 on a 3-bed rural Kent home. The Boiler Upgrade Scheme pays £7,500 off the install regardless of income, bringing typical installed costs to £4,000-£7,000. We do a full MCS heat loss calc at the survey, uprate radiators where the existing ones can't hit the lower flow temperatures a heat pump needs and weatherproof the outdoor unit properly.

Is coastal solar a good idea in Dover given salt air and cliff-top wind?

Yes, provided the install hardware is right. The Kent coast sees around 1,040-1,090 kWh/kWp a year — strong yields, close to the south coast average. A typical 4 kWp Dover array generates 4,150-4,350 kWh/year. The coastal exposure is the issue, not the generation: salt air and higher wind loadings wreck cheap mounting. Every Dover install from us uses stainless A2/A4 fixings, marine-grade aluminium rails, UV-stable cable runs and sealed roof penetrations. Pair panels with a 5 kWh battery to lift self-consumption to 70-85%, and Smart Export Guarantee pays around 15p/kWh on surplus export. Panels carry 25-year performance guarantees and mounting hardware won't corrode.

How fast can OMEGA survey and install in Dover?

Surveys are usually booked within 5 working days — Dover is on our standard Kent routes. Loft and cavity installs finish in a single day. External wall insulation on a Buckland or Maxton terrace takes 5-10 days on site depending on size and detailing. Solar and battery installs in 1-2 days. Air-source heat pumps are 2-3 days on site, with a 3-4 week wait for Boiler Upgrade Scheme approval before we start — that's scheme administrator timeline, not ours. Your surveyor gives you a firm start date and total duration at the end of the survey visit, along with a written quote showing exactly what's covered by grants and funding.
