Funded insulation, solar and heat pumps across Gravesend — DA11 and DA12 Thames-side retrofits

Gravesend and Northfleet are dense with Victorian and Edwardian solid-wall terraces, plus post-war semis at Riverview Park and Singlewell. It's ECO4, GBIS and Boiler Upgrade Scheme territory. We retrofit across DA11-DA12 with proper surveys, conservation-aware specs and 25-year guarantees. Free survey, fully funded where eligible.

Why OMEGA

Why Gravesend homeowners choose us.

  • Victorian + Edwardian Terrace Experts

Central Gravesend and Northfleet have thousands of pre-1920 solid-walled terraces. We deliver both external and internal wall insulation and handle conservation consents across the borough.

  • Riverview Park + Singlewell Cavity Fills

Riverview Park, Singlewell and Istead Rise are dominated by post-war cavity-walled semis. Most qualify for fully funded cavity wall and loft top-up work under ECO4 or GBIS.

  • Downs Village Heat Pump Routes

Shorne, Higham and parts of Meopham sit on the edge of the mains gas grid or off it entirely. BUS-funded heat pumps deliver big savings against oil, LPG and old electric storage.

  • Full Funding Stack

ECO4, GBIS, Boiler Upgrade Scheme and Smart Export Guarantee — all checked at every Gravesend survey. Most eligible homeowners pay £0 for insulation.

Local questions

Installing in Gravesend — answered.

My Northfleet terrace is solid-walled Victorian — what's the right insulation spec?

Northfleet and central Gravesend terraces are typically pre-1920 solid-brick, with no cavity to fill. The right fix is solid wall insulation — external (EWI) or internal (IWI). EWI is usually the bigger thermal gain: around 90mm of insulation plus render bonded to the outside of the wall, which lifts EPCs two bands and typically saves £400-£800 a year. It does change the external appearance, so in Gravesham's conservation areas we handle the planning application and spec render finishes that suit the local vernacular. IWI is the right call for listed or conservation frontages where the exterior can't change — slim breathable build-ups work without damaging the historic fabric. ECO4 funds the full job for eligible households.

Does Riverview Park qualify for GBIS?

A large share of it, yes. GBIS covers most EPC D-G homes in council tax bands A-D without the benefit test, which catches a lot of the 1960s-70s Riverview Park semis. The scheme pays for cavity wall insulation (on the stock built with cavities, which is most post-1920 Gravesend housing) or loft insulation in full — no income check, no benefit test. Homes in higher council tax bands can still qualify for ECO4 if someone in the household receives a benefit like Universal Credit, Pension Credit or ESA. We run both checks at the free survey — EPC pulled from the register, council tax band confirmed, benefit eligibility walked through properly — and submit the paperwork on your behalf.

Can I install a heat pump in Shorne or Higham if I'm on oil?

Usually yes, and off-gas Downs-edge villages are where heat pumps pay back fastest. Shorne, Higham and parts of Meopham have many properties still on oil or LPG, often with older 80% efficient boilers. A modern air-source heat pump runs at 300-400% efficiency and typically cuts annual heating costs by £600-£1,200 on a 3-4 bed rural Kent home. The Boiler Upgrade Scheme pays £7,500 off the install regardless of income, bringing typical installed costs to £4,000-£7,000. For older fabric we do a proper MCS heat loss calculation at the survey and uprate radiators where needed — this is where cheap heat pump installs go wrong. Installation is 2-3 days on site after BUS approval.

How does OMEGA handle Gravesham conservation areas?

Carefully and on the front foot. Gravesham has several conservation areas — central Gravesend, Milton Chantry, bits of Northfleet — plus scattered Grade II listed Georgian and Victorian properties. For conservation-area homes we can often get EWI approved using render and detailing that match the local vernacular; we submit the planning application on your behalf and coordinate with the council's conservation officer. For listed buildings, Listed Building Consent is required — more involved, but frequently granted for sensitively-detailed schemes. Where external changes aren't permitted, internal wall insulation (IWI) with breathable build-ups is an effective alternative and still fully funded under ECO4 for eligible households. Loft and under-floor insulation are almost always permitted.

What savings should a Gravesend homeowner realistically expect?

Depends on the starting point. A Northfleet Victorian terrace with full EWI typically saves £400-£800 a year and lifts the EPC two bands. A Riverview Park 1960s semi with cavity wall insulation and a loft top-up saves around £300-£500 a year. An off-gas Shorne or Higham home switching from oil to an air-source heat pump saves £600-£1,200 a year on heating. Adding solar plus a 5 kWh battery layers on another £400-£700 a year regardless of insulation. Your surveyor models the specific numbers for your DA11 or DA12 property at the free survey, so you see exactly what the full package saves — and how much of it is covered by grants and funding — before you commit to anything.
