ME1 through ME8 — Rochester, Chatham, Gillingham, Rainham, Strood, Walderslade, Hoo peninsula. One team, one project coordinator, start to finish.

  • Victorian Terrace Solid-Wall Experts

Chatham and Rochester have thousands of pre-1930 solid-walled terraces. We deliver both external and internal wall insulation and handle conservation area consents.

  • 1930s Semi Cavity-Wall Specialists

Gillingham, Rainham and Walderslade are dominated by interwar cavity-walled semis. Most qualify for fully funded cavity wall insulation under ECO4 or GBIS.

  • New-Build Retrofit + Solar

The Hoo peninsula and Wainscott developments are prime for solar, battery and heat pump upgrades. Smart Export Guarantee plus BUS stacks the savings.

Local questions

Installing in Medway — answered.

I live in a Chatham Victorian terrace — which insulation actually works?

Chatham's terraced stock is typically solid-brick, built pre-1930, with no cavity to fill. The right fix is solid wall insulation — either external (EWI), which renders over the brick and adds around 90mm of insulation outside, or internal (IWI), which adds an insulated stud wall inside. EWI delivers better thermal performance and doesn't reduce internal floor space, but it changes the external appearance — in Chatham's conservation areas we handle the planning application. ECO4 funds the full install for eligible households.

Do Gillingham and Rainham 1930s semis qualify for free cavity wall insulation?

In most cases, yes. The vast majority of Gillingham and Rainham semis built between 1920 and 1985 have unfilled cavity walls that lose around a third of the home's heat. Under ECO4, homeowners on a qualifying benefit — or in EPC D-G homes — get cavity wall insulation fully funded. GBIS covers most D-G homes in council tax bands A-D without the benefit requirement. The install itself takes a single day; a crew drills small holes in the mortar joints, blows in mineral wool or bead, and makes good.

Can I install a heat pump on the Hoo peninsula if I'm off the gas grid?

Yes — and off-gas Hoo properties are where heat pumps deliver the best savings. Parts of the Hoo peninsula (Grain, Allhallows, parts of Cliffe) are off the mains gas grid and still on oil, LPG or electric heating. An air-source heat pump on a reasonably-insulated Hoo 3-bed can cut annual heating costs by £600-£1,200 compared to oil. The Boiler Upgrade Scheme pays £7,500 off the install regardless of income. Installation takes 2-3 days on site; grant approval runs 3-4 weeks.

How does OMEGA handle Rochester's conservation areas and listed buildings?

Rochester has extensive conservation areas around the cathedral, High Street and Restoration House — and many Grade II listed Georgian and Victorian properties. For conservation-area homes we use render and cladding finishes that match the local vernacular and submit planning applications on your behalf; EWI is often permitted where it preserves or improves the character of the property. Listed buildings need full Listed Building Consent, which we manage end to end. Internal wall insulation and roof-integrated solar are our go-to solutions where external changes aren't permitted.

What typical savings should a Medway homeowner expect?

It depends heavily on the starting point. A Gillingham 1930s semi with unfilled cavities saves £300-£500/year after cavity wall insulation alone. A Chatham Victorian terrace with full external wall insulation saves £400-£800/year. A Hoo peninsula 3-bed switching from oil to an air-source heat pump saves £600-£1,200/year. Adding solar plus a 5 kWh battery typically saves another £400-£700/year regardless of location. Your surveyor will model the specific savings for your property.

  • Living in a 1930s semi, we always struggled with cold walls. OMEGA installed external wall insulation and the house feels completely different. The team was professional and kept us informed throughout. Excellent service.
    Patricia Henshaw · Southend-on-Sea, Essex
  • Had solar panels installed by OMEGA and the whole process was seamless. From the initial survey to MCS certification and SEG registration, they handled everything. Already seeing significant savings on our electricity bills.
    James Whitmore · Ipswich, Suffolk
  • OMEGA were brilliant from start to finish. The surveyor explained everything clearly, and the loft insulation was installed within a week. Our upstairs rooms are noticeably warmer and our energy bills have already dropped. Cannot recommend them highly enough.
    Sarah Mitchell · Colchester, Essex
  • We had the full package — loft insulation, cavity walls, and solar panels. OMEGA coordinated everything and secured ECO4 funding for the insulation. The solar panels are already paying for themselves. Best home improvement decision we have made.
Steve & Jackie Palmer · Rayleigh, Essex
  • OMEGA installed a 4kW solar system on our south-facing roof. The design maximised output and the installation was completed in a single day. We are now generating more electricity than we use during summer months.
    Michael O'Brien · Maidstone, Kent
  • We replaced our old oil boiler with an air source heat pump. OMEGA secured the £7,500 BUS grant for us and the installation was completed in three days. Our heating bills have halved and the house is more comfortable than ever.
Robert & Linda Clarke · Braintree, Essex
  • Our Victorian terrace in Cambridge needed careful insulation work due to conservation area restrictions. OMEGA understood exactly what was possible and installed internal wall insulation that has transformed the comfort of our home without affecting the external appearance.
Dr. Helen Crawford · Cambridge, Cambridgeshire
  • We had cavity wall and loft insulation done through ECO4 funding — completely free. The team arrived on time, worked cleanly, and left everything spotless. The difference in warmth is remarkable. Five stars.
