If you arrived here looking for a comparison between ECO4 and the Great British Insulation Scheme: that scheme has now closed to new central applications. The eligibility-check service has come down. Some energy suppliers may still be honouring applications already in their pipeline, but for any new install in 2026 you should not assume GBIS is available.
The live UK grant landscape in 2026
ECO4 remains the principal benefits-led route. If someone in the household receives a qualifying benefit (Universal Credit, Pension Credit, ESA, Income Support and others) and the home is rated EPC D-G, ECO4 funds cavity wall, loft and solid wall insulation in full. Local-authority Flex routes extend that to households below ~£31,000 income who do not receive a benefit but live in a poor-EPC home.
For heat pumps the £7,500 Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) remains live and applies as a discount on your quote, not a rebate after install. For solar, the Smart Export Guarantee (SEG) pays you per kWh exported to the grid — every install we do is SEG-registered on day one.
How to find out what your address qualifies for
The cleanest way to confirm what your specific address qualifies for in 2026 is the free home energy survey. We pull your EPC, confirm your council tax band, walk through benefit eligibility honestly, and put the live funding routes for your property in writing before you commit. Free. No cost, no obligation, no pressure.
